Each year, in the heart of the Southampton Writers Conference, the gates are thrown open and the public is invited to join the conference attendees for a special evening to celebrate the launch of the newest issue of The Southampton Review (TSR). Alec Baldwin, Alan Alda, and Sigourney Weaver are just a few of the people who have participated over the years, and events have ranged from staged readings to last year’s live recording of “The Moth” radio hour.
Because of the success of “The Moth,” the Southampton Writers Conference crew decided to stick with the same medium. Public Radio’s “Selected Shorts,” which has its usual home at Symphony Space in Manhattan but occasionally takes the show on the road, will come to Avram Theater on the campus of Stony Brook Southampton on July 18 for an evening of storytelling by notable voices in the literary landscape.
